As a general rule, women should be eating approximately 2,000 calories per day to stay healthy and fit (or up to 2,300 if she’s more physically active) As we creep closer to the holidays and the feasts in which we celebrate them, a problem rears it ugly head. On average, a traditional Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner can contain more than 2,000 calories. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that an average woman would be taking in her entire caloric intake in one shot!

Being that it’s pretty unhealthy to eat only one meal per day, we’re going to take a look at some strategies that can help you stay fit through the holidays.

If you live in the New York area, you’ve more than likely seen the mug of Dr. Mehmet Oz mozying along on the side of a city bus. Having personally witnessed this ad about 1,000 times I gave in. I tuned in and checked out what the good doctor had to say (check out your local listings here).

Here’s  a clip from a recent episode:

It turned out that the Dr. Oz show was incredibly informative and relevant to issues that come u in everyday life. Whether it’s staying clear of germs at the supermarket or how to reduce the amount of gas you have, Dr. Oz seems to have all the answers. After being mesmerized by the show two afternoons in a row, I decided to get the skinny on this entertaining, and inspiring man.

Maintaining your ideal body weight is simple if you follow a few guidelines.

When you eat the right foods in the right combinations there is no need to count calories. It is always better to systematically under eat than to over eat and of course to maintain or get to your ideal body weight you have to burn off more calories than you take in. But many people do burn off more calories than they take in and systematically under eat and still gain or keep on there weight.   1. Thin people eat foods with high water content to include fruits,  vegetables, water based soups and stews and cooked whole grains. This includes lots of salads and with creative healthy dressings.

Is addiction a part of life? Is conquering our addictions part of our growth process? It seems as though every human has at least one addiction. Addictions, to include food, sex, self improvement, alcohol, cigarettes, over the counter and prescription drugs, gambling, to name a few are such a common thing that I wonder if it is part of our growing process to conquer them. Or is all about the food we put in our bodies?

In my research I have always been intrigued by the connection to serotonin levels in the brain and addiction. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter ( ++++ ) responsible for communicating the various needs of the body between the brain cells and the peripheral ( ++++ ) cells of the nervous system. What we put in our mouths has a greater effect on us than we think. Eating processed foods affects our physical, emotional, and spiritual state negatively. Eat whole, non processed foods. In my view, there are several things one can do to maintain optimal health with ease. The first is to let your body be sick. In many cases, sickness is the body simply healing itself as in the case of colds and the flu. We have developed a bad habit of stopping the sickness by taking drugs — which in turn stops the healing. When you do that, the poisons and toxins stay in the body and cause havoc later on. (more…)
